How to Take an Effective Break
First and foremost, an effective break doesn’t involve scrolling through your phone. You may intend on only a few minutes, but time blindness takes effect quickly and before you know it, you’ve wasted precious study time doom scrolling through your feeds.
You could be much more productive and efficient during study time if you stay off your phone until you’re done. And maybe you can’t change COMPLETELY right now, but you’ll only get better as you consistently try.
A great strategy is to create a menu of screenless activities you can choose from when it’s time to give your brain some space to process the material you’re studying.
Suggested Activities for an Effective Study Break
- Get moving and physically distance yourself from your studies by using the restroom, filling up your water bottle, or changing locations.
- Recharge your brain with some food and eat a healthy snack!
- Kinetically engage with a small toy like a Rubik’s cube, thinking putty, brain teaser, or a small Lego set you can carry in your backpack.
- Use your hands and get creative with activities like crocheting, origami, or drawing.
